Possible SYN Flooding on Port 80. Sending Cookies
“possible SYN flooding on port 80. Sending cookies.” is what I came into on Monday of this week on our web server.  With the site crawling and being driven to its knees, I needed to figure out the best way to stop this attack.  Here’s what I came up with… First turn off net.ipv4.tcp_syncookies ( I know this is supposed to help but it caused more harm then good ) sysctl...

Forget Cherry Flavored Lip Balm
Chapstick has a pretty wide varieties of flavors these days.  These include the traditional “Classic” flavors Original, Strawberry, Spearmint and Cherry. As well as the newer Flava-Craze flavors, available in Grape Craze, Blue CrazeBerry, and Fruit Craze. It looks like our choices are pretty limited here.  I mean all we really have to choose from is something that tastes either...

Google's Newest Attempt to Rule the World
Introducing Google Wave (click for bigger pic) At first glance it does look pretty damn cool.  The commenting on specific parts of the conversation is an awesome and useful function that I could use pretty much hourly.  The organization of multiple people in one conversation is another great feature I would use. Is it going to take over email?  I highly doubt it.  But for all us Gmail users...

IE8 Suffers Due to Microsoft Being Microsoft
I find this quote from this Washington Post article hilarious. “Microsoft’s new browser, a free download for Windows XP and Vista, suffers in part because it tries to meet so many goals.” I feel like emailing the writer and saying, “yeah… uh… DUH!!”

Got Apps? iPhone App Alert Service
People over at Gotapps have created a service to alert you when new iPhone applications hit the iTunes App Store. You can select to get alerts on all new apps, by specifying a keyword, or by a specific category.  I set it up to send me alerts on all apps.  We will see how annoying that gets.

TweetBeep Not Quite Tracking But Close
I’m using Tweetbeep to track a few keywords these days.  Tweetbeep is somewhat similar to twitter’s long forgotten tracking function.  Back in the good ole days you could track different key words on twitter and get instant messages when those keywords were tweeted.  Tweetbeep alerts aren’t instant but you can an email as often as once an hour listing the tweets with the keywords...

Twitter Search Results in Google
I’m totally digging the live twitter search results through Google.  Today it has lead to a handful of answers to searches that I have performed throughout the day.  One real nice thing is that the results are fresh and new.  You know exactly how long ago something was posted to twitter so for most searches you are getting the most update results.  Now this certainly won’t replace...
